Academic Documents and Credential Evaluations
Academic Documents (Application and Admission)
Applicants must submit academic documents for all post-secondary institutions attended for academic credit, regardless of degree completion, as part of the application review process.
Applicants who submit official academic records* at the time of application may receive priority consideration in review and processing by both graduate programs and the Office of Graduate Education (OGE). Unofficial academic documents (e.g., advisor transcripts, web/SIS transcripts, or degree audits) are accepted for program admission review.
If an applicant is admitted, OGE requires official academic documents to be submitted through approved methods (see Submission Requirements below).
*Official academic records are documents issued directly by the institution or sent through an authorized third-party service (e.g., secure electronic delivery). Documents must be in the institution’s official format and, if submitted by mail, provided in the original, unopened, sealed envelope.
International Credentials
Applicants who completed any portion of their postsecondary education outside of the United States must have their academic credentials verified and evaluated to determine equivalency to U.S. degree standards.
Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit credentials that have already been evaluated by a recognized Credential Evaluation Service, as this may reduce application review and processing time. For additional information, please visit Georgia Tech’s Credential Evaluation Services webpage.
Applicants who earned a degree outside of the United States should also review the country-specific guidelines to understand Georgia Tech’s minimum eligibility requirements.
Native & English Language Documents
Admitted students must submit official academic records as issued by their institution.
If an institution issues official academic records in English, Georgia Tech will accept those documents as the official version. In these cases, native-language copy or translation is not required.
If an institution does not issue official academic records in English, the admitted student must submit the original native-language document(s) along with a word-for-word certified English translation.
Submission Requirements
Official academic documents must be submitted through an approved delivery method, such as:
- A secure electronic delivery service (required for U.S. institutions), or
- in person delivery or mail in the issuing institution’s original, unopened, sealed envelope.
For detailed instructions, see “How do I submit my official academic documents?”
Important Notes
- OGE will not process an admitted student’s application until official documents are received through one of our approved methods stated above.
- Applicants are responsible for monitoring their application status and ensuring that all required documentation is submitted by applicable deadlines.
